Do you love strong tea or coffee in the morning? Does the aroma of the brewing beverage entice you into the kitchen and send shivers of joy down your spine. Will the first sip bring satisfaction and pleasure? Does the tea or coffee help you greet the day, with an attitude of praise and hope?
God’s Word does all of this and so much MORE!! God’s Word is ALIVE! It not only encourages and instructs, but it also helps in discerning the true intentions of our heart. We stand naked and exposed to the eyes of God when we read His word and bow before His presence. There is no hiding from God, Adam and Eve learned that lesson long ago in the Garden of Eden.
There are many benefits and blessings that come from reading and studying the Bible. First, we must recognize that God is the VINE and we are merely the BRANCHES. He is the source of living waters and eternal life. Apart from Him life will just not work or go well. The vine or trunk waters a branch, and our spiritual nourishment comes from the Word of God. So one blessing we receive from reading the Word is that we will not thirst or hunger. The scriptures help to satisfy our souls.
Another benefit from reading the Word is that we receive a blessing for doing so. Revelations 1:3 calls the person who reads this book, and all who hear it, blessed. Who does not want to receive a blessing from the Creator of the universe? We must read the scriptures to find out what He expects from us and how we will be rewarded for our obedience. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to learning the promises inside the words of God.
If we allow the scriptures to saturate our minds, by meditating on their instruction, truth, and hope we will gain peace. The peace comes as we trust in the love of God. This love is evident in His willingness to send His own Son to dies on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. And why did he do this for us? It is because He wants a personal relationship with us. He longs for intimacy with His creation. Amazing! In order to nurture our relationship with God, we must communicate with Him. Prayer is a powerful avenue to develop our intimacy with Him. Nobody enjoys a one sided conversation, so this means we can’t do all of the talking. We must LISTEN to what God has to say to us!
If you are facing a struggle, go ahead and cry out to God. He wants to hear the petitions of His children. However, after you have voiced your fears and worries….. try to be silent. Wait on the Lord and let the Word of God, hopefully now hidden in your heart, speak to you. If you have allowed scripture to “brew” in your heart and mind, you will have a clearer grasp on what is really important to Him. You will find your trials less worrisome as the verses you have been reading will give you more understanding and vision. There is POWER in the Word so take hold of it and put it to good use.
