Recognizing God’s Voice

Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”

And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” 1 Samuel 3:10 (NKJV

If you want to deepen your intimacy with God your fellowship time should be considered. God speaks to us throughout the day but we miss most of His words because we are focused on the cares of this world. Training our ears to recognize His voice is vital to our spiritual maturity. A deliberate attentiveness and attitude of “Speak Lord, I am listening” should to be evident.

It took three calls from God before Samuel acknowledged His presence. How many times has God called out your name only to find a deaf ear? And today, how many times will He call before you recognize His voice? Once you do hear His voice…. will you set aside your busyness and fellowship with Him? The choice is always up to us. I hope you decide to bask in the glory of His presence.

Father God,

I lift up this reader and ask that You sharpen their desire to fellowship with You today. May he/she purpose in his/her heart to set aside time to patiently wait for You to speak. Refine their ability to recognize Your voice. Grant him/her understanding when You do speak and an obedient heart to accept Your wisdom, encouragement, and leading. Amen.

  1. I want to hear God. I realize that I can get so busy that I am not listening. Thank you for this post and especially the prayer…..

      Hi Myra,
Thanks for your comment. God wants to talk to His children, even if it is just for a minute. I used to pray in the car on my way to work. Think about a time YOU can use to fellowship with your heavenly Father. Oh, and I like going on “dates” with Jesus. I like taking a day and spending it with just Him. I go on hikes or take a drive to view fall colors.
