Where & How To Obtain The Wisdom Of God

Wisdom-Knowledge-300x300

“Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!
And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.” Proverbs 4:7 (NLT)

“ My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col 2:2-3 (NIV)

DEAR ONE,

The entire fourth proverb is about the importance of gaining wisdom.  Wisdom is supreme and worth far more than rubies and gold. It is a fool who does not seek the treasures found within wisdom’s bounty. So how does one acquire her and what exactly are her benefits? Job 12:12 offers a hint.  The verse begins, “Wisdom is with the aged…”

It is through life experiences that we gain wisdom.  Trials we suffer and difficult struggles we undergo add to our measure of wisdom. The older we are, the more storms we have weathered.  We can learn so much through the elders amongst us who have passed through difficult times similar to our own. Proverb 4:1 starts out commanding sons to listen attentively to their father’s instruction, for through it they will gain understanding. There is a plea not to forsake his teaching.

Wisdom has more benefits than I can list.  However, one of her merits includes her ability to preserve life.  Wisdom enables us to apply knowledge that will get us out of tight spots.  She also guides us and protects. She is to be loved and cherished, especially since she will faithfully watch over those in her care.

James 3:17 attributes gentle traits to wisdom calling her peaceful, sincere, impartial, and full of mercy.  With wisdom there will come good fruits.  You will recognize her in those who listen to advice and apply it with an even hand.

Where are all the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge to be found? They are buried as treasure in Christ Jesus.  As you build your relationship with Christ, He will unveil more and more of His mysteries and wisdom. The wisdom that comes from heaven is pure, and it is the pure-in-heart who hungers for it.

Call out for wisdom, without doubting the one who escorts her your way. Expect her arrival and anticipate it with longing. Once she has arrived, look carefully how you walk as you do not want to loose her favor.  As a gentleman walks with his lady, so must you with wisdom.  Make the best use of your time with her, for her company is highly sought after and greatly valued.  Give her your undivided attention, and you will be richly rewarded with blessings and a long and merciful life.

James 3:17 (ESV)  “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”

Proverbs 3:13-18 (ESV)  “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. …”
